Tip 1: Edit your closet often and set a cut-off date.

If you haven’t worn something in the past year, consider it taking up valuable real estate in your closet. Say bye-bye because it has just become clutter.

Tip 2: Downsize multiples of items.

You probably have a collection of t-shirts that could use some paring down. Choose seven to keep and donate the others because let’s be honest you don’t need to hoard piles of t-shirts.

Tip 3: Keep clothing to one item per hanger.

Avoid double-hanging items. If you’re running low on space or hangers it seems like a good idea to double-hang, but this is actually the quickest way for your closet to hide your clothes from you. Without full visibility of all the items in your closet you won’t be able to wear everything you truly have.

Tip 4: Merchandise your clothing.

To avoid an overwhelming closet, arrange your clothing by category. For example, group all your tops together, all your pants together and all outerwear together for a neat and orderly wardrobe. You can also go a step further and arrange by color as well. This way it will be very simple when looking for your favorite blouse or pair of slacks to put an outfit together.

Tip 5: Color coordinate your handbags.

Keep your handbags and clutches sorted by color so you can easily grab the perfect option for your outfit.

Tip 6: Keep your shoes visible.

This is a simple concept: if you can’t see it, you won’t wear it. If your shoes are hidden in the back of your closet or covered by hanging clothes, you will constantly wear the same pairs over and over again. Show yourself all of your options and give all of your fabulous shoes the opportunity to be worn.

Tip 7: Invest in the right hangers.

Take a look at your closet and find out which types of hangers work best for your wardrobe. I highly suggest avoiding wire hangers because they can distort the shape of your clothing; instead go for a wooden hanger or a thin, sleek style that will help save you valuable closet space.
